In 2009, the design of an energy self-sufficient depot in Ahlen/Westphalia was developed on the subject of green building in industrial construction. The design is characterized by a functional roof structure that spans the entire depot. This roof surface fulfills the function of electricity generation via a large-scale photovoltaic system as well as the creation of a substitute ecosystem in the form of a green roof with rain retention function.
The operational buildings under the canopy are to be constructed in passive house design. The selection of the building materials will take into account the life cycle costs. Only ecological and “healthy for living” building materials will be used.
